    Only Reason this isn’t 5 stars is the reel they put onto the pole is not great. It’s not worth the extra $40 dollars for the combo, just put that toward a better reel. The rod is great, and the medium action rod works great for any size fish from tiny minnows to 10 pound carp. I’m sure it could handle bigger, just haven’t gotten there yet. The pole is very sensitive, seems very sturdy, and the 2 piece connection stays in place and works perfect. The reel holder is also very easy to use and isn’t going anywhere.

    I have this paired with a 3000 size okuma spinning reel, so far so good. The Abu Garcia broke after a few uses.

    I did very little research and bought this for my husband for a fishing trip because the guys on reddit said it's a great combo for trout fishing. Worked out really well for him and it's really nice quality for the price.

    The drag seems to not work correctly

    The drag is very funny on this reel. It doesn't seem to be able to let line out unless it's so loose you can't even bring line in. Maybe it's just a situation of it being a new reel so I'm getting used to it but I'm not sure.

    Otherwise, it's a good rod and reel, as expected of an ugly stik. This is my first 7ft rod, very useful for trout fishing and for bank fishing in a spot with a lot of weeds on the bank (the rod can reach over the brush so your line doesn't get wrapped in it) it does have one of those weird extended handles below the reel that some rods have for some reason, personally I'd prefer that wasn't there but it's ultimately not a problem.
